They feature a triangular leather applique on the side foot, a padded ankle and contrast stitching. This is a combination of sumi suede leather and full grain calf leather. This mediumweght calf suede leather is overdyed with a black japanese pigment called sumi that is made from carbon powder and traditionally used in caligraphy. The skins are then washed to create the uneven dye effect. It has a natural and waxy handfeel achieved by drumming the skins with wax. Since the sumi pigment used to dye this leather is natural, shadings and color variations will be present.
